The Run Flat Tyre Lever (also known as a Wave Lever or Low profile tyre lever) is a tyre lever that has been specifically designed to reduce the amount of force required when pulling the tyre beads up and over the tyre machine fitting heads.
Due to the design of run flat tyres (as is extremely thick and stiff sidewalls) when levering the tyre bead up and over the fitting head of a tyre machine, the process can require a high amount of force in order to complete. This not only creates fatigue on the tyre fitter but also creates a lot of leverage force on the tyre machine, which can cause the head to move and come in contact with a wheel and possibly causing damage to the tyre machine, the wheel or both.
Also there is the risk of slippage that can result in injury to workers as well as risk of damage to wheels or vehicles in the event that the tyre lever suddenly goes flying, if grip on the tyre lever is lost when under load.
The run flat tyre lever has a specific “Wave” or bowed shaped profile at one end of the lever. The wave profile sits on the head of the tyre machine allowing the main shaft of the tyre lever to be closer to the wheel rim. This reduces the amount the bead has to stretch to be levered over the fitting head, thus reducing the amount of force required to lift the tyre bead.
